7 Days Morocco Desert Tour

Merzouga is a small Moroccan town located in the Sahara Desert, near the Algerian border. Merzouga opens onto Erg Chebbi, a huge expanse of sand dunes north of the city. To the west is Dayet Srji, a seasonal salt lake, often dry in summer. When it fills up again, it attracts a wide variety of migratory and desert birds, including warblers, nightjars and, occasionally, flamingos.

Morocco, a country of North Africa on the coast of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, is distinguished by its Berber, Arab and European influences. The medina of Marrakech, a medieval district with the appearance of a labyrinth, is a lively place, with its Jemaa el-Fna square and its souks (markets) selling ceramics, jewelry and metal lanterns. The Oudayas Kasbah in Rabat, the capital, is a 12th-century royal fort overlooking the ocean.

This tour departs from the desert city of Zagora and includes an off-road 4x4 desert safari adventure, and a camel sunrise across sand dunes.

Once you arrive to Fes, a representative of ours will come welcome you at the airport. Then we will begin our tour of the city by walking around the streets and alleyways of the Old Medina, then we will visit the impressive gates of the royal palace, and what is considered to be the first Mellah to be built in Morocco. After that, we will go walk around the Attarin Souk, where you will find all sorts of artisanal products on display. After we are done with that, we will leave the Souk through the Bab Boujeloud gate which is in itself a stunning masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship. Following this, we will pay a visit to the Dar Albatha museum, known for its unique display of traditional Moroccan arts. We may have a typical Moroccan lunch at a restaurant in the Medina if you would like, after which we will spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the new parts of the city. As for the overnight accommodations, they will be in Fez.

Today we will start heading south on our journey to the Sahara desert. But first, we will go through the Middle Atlas region where we will meet the town of Ifrane (known for its unique weather and Ski resorts), the Azrou cedar forests (populated by wild Macaque monkeys) and then the town of Midelt. After driving through the Tizin Talghamt mountain pass, you will notice the landscape will start turning into a more Saharian atmosphere, as we will reach the town of Errachidia where we will have lunch. While we are still there, we will get to visit the Al-Dakhil water dam, known for its gorgeous aqua-blue colored water. Then we will continue driving through the massive palm groves of Ziz Valley, where you might want to stop to take photographs of the landscape. Then after Erfoud, we will finally reach the town of Merzouga, the gateway of the Desert where we will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.

Today is a special day because it will be full of desert adventures. The first one of those will be a drive through the desert dunes in 4×4 vehicles, through which you will get to explore the volcanic fossil rocks. After that we will try and find a nomad family, so that you can chat with them and learn more about their way of life. Next up we will stop by the village of Khamlia, where you can watch some live spiritual Gnaoua music playing. Finally, we will visit Rissani towns where we can walk around the biggest traditional souk of the area. Then towards the late afternoon, we will start our camel trekking ride, in which you will get to ride on the back of a camel through the desert dunes. The camels will take us to the desert camp where we will spend an unforgettable night sleeping in Nomad tents, under the clear starry night sky.

After waking up in time to admire the beauty of the breathtaking desert sunrise, we will ride our camels back to the hotel at Merzouga to get a delicious breakfast and get the chance to shower. After that we will head to the Todra gorges where we will have lunch, after passing by Tinghir and Rissani. We will then continue driving towards the beautiful Dades location where you can enjoy magnificent landscapes of rock formations. Then our journey through the south continues as we visit the city Kalaat Mgouna, famous for being the Moroccan capital of Rose production. We will head to Skoura, where we can also visit the historical Kasbah Amerdil. Finally, we will reach our destination of the day, which is Ouarzazate city. There’s a lot to see in Ouarzazate, such as the local Kasbah or the famous filming studio that the city is known for.

After having breakfast, we will visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which is a recognized UNESCO world heritage, and many big movie directors have chosen it over the years as a filming location for international movies such as The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator… etc. After this, we will head to the nearby Kasbah of Talouet, which is a very historically important Kasbah, for it used to be the residence of the most important man in the south “Pacha Glaoui”. Then we will leave to finally head to Marrakech, driving through the Tizin Tichka mountain pass. We will get there by the evening and we will be spending the night at a traditional Riad.

This day will be entirely spent touring the city of Marrakech. You will be accompanied by a local tour guide, which will allow you to discover all of the places worth visiting. The tour includes, but is not limited to: the Koutoubia Minaret, Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, the Dar Si Said Museum and the Majorelle Gardens. You will also spend some time exploring the world famous Jamaa El Fna square, with all of its different sorts of entertainers. Be prepared to find snake charmers, musicians, storytellers and an abundance of stalls for foods and drinks. We will have dinner and spend the night at the same Riad as the night before.

For the last day of our trip, you might want to do some last minute shopping for souvenirs, or simply walk around the streets of Marrakech. Your transfer to the airport will be arranged according to your flight schedule, and this marks the end of our services.
